Favourite people.
It is only shallow people who require years to get rid of an emotion. A man who is master of himself can end a sorrow as easily as he can invent a pleasure. I don’t want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to
use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them. — Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

I was never really insane except upon occasions when my heart was touched. — Edgar Allan Poe (via observando)
"Walk with someone".

Another day, another reported sexual assault, the same comments made by the officers handling the case:

Walk with someone”, “stay in brightly lit areas”, “this is concerning…”.

These words are always pointed at the women who are victimised. Yet, the perpetrators are never condemned. The news article, alas, is no more than a report and a reminder for females, to once again, hide. Because the only way to be safe was to be in another’s company.

As a woman, I have grown up looking over my shoulder just in case someone was following. I have learnt to be wary of the man approaching, because he could either be harmless or a complete danger.

We know what we have to do to stay safe. We have been constantly reminded since our childhood.

What I do not understand is why it is always women who are reminded to stay “safe” when we need to be telling the men that THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT to a woman’s body.

Keira Knightley in Atonement, 2007.
It wasn’t only wickedness and scheming that made people unhappy, it was confusion and misunderstanding; above all, it was the failure to grasp the simple truth that other people are as real as you. — Ian McEwan Atonement (via sempiternale)
